“Waves of Freedom”
By Alexandra Keyser
(Laura Silver's 8 th Grade Language Arts Class)

We live in a place where we are given more than many of us feel we deserve, and many of us do not think to recognize what we have been gifted. We live in a world where there are many who are less fortunate than we are. But we should reflect upon who has fought for what we now take for granted and benefit from. We should honor the waves of people who stood up for what they believed was right.

They fought, risked their lives and died so we could live the life that we live today. We live as a people with rights that are protected. I feel the acceptance of those who are different than ourselves is important, regardless of views or opinions, appearance or beliefs. These protections are the foundations of our country and unite us together. Our rights of equality have greatly affected and empowered myself and the people around me to stand up for what we believe in. We can say what we believe and express our sentiments to our government and improve our republic without chastisement.

We protect the rights of free speech, religion and many more in our Bill of Rights. We protect the rights of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness in our Declaration of
Independence. These documents, waves of freedom, protect our freedoms, but not all people deserve to have all their rights protected because they have proven that they have misused these treasured gifts and their actions have harmed the wellbeing of others. They have misused our precious rights for which waves of people fought.

Many people in our nation's past have created ripples that spread across our nation to create waves of movement when they fought for their rights to be equal. Equal as people, equal as Americans, equal under our waving star spangled banner.
